Karachi: Administrator KMC Muhammad Hussain Syed has directed to start the cleaning of all small and big drains located in district south and east from Sunday so that the citizens could be saved from any mishap during the next monsoon season in the city.
In this connection a meeting was held in the office of the Senior Director Health to chalk out the strategy for cleaning of drains.
The meeting was chaired by Senior Director Health Services Dr. Shoukat Zaman and attended by municipal commissioners and concerned officers of DMC East and South while health services and technical officials were also present on this occasion.
It was decided in the meeting to form two teams for each of these districts which would review the cleaning work of storm water drains within their remit and focus on the chocking points in drains.
Meanwhile the cleaning of Akbar Road Nullah, Lilli Bridge, University Road Nullah, Manzoor Colony Nullah and Nehr-e-Khayam from Boat Basin was also started and the cleaning work of drains located in Gulshan Iqbal and Jamshed Zone including the areas of Manzoor Colony and Mehmoodabad will also begin from Wednesday.
A detailed program for cleaning of drains in district South and East was also being worked out and in this connection an immediate visit of Senior Director Health Services to drains of district South had been planned along with the Director Machinery Pool, Chief Engineer NN-I Technical Services, District Municipal Commissioner and concerned officers.
It was also decided in the meeting that Senior Director Health Services and concerned officers of KMC and district municipal administration would personally monitor and review the cleaning of all drains and submit reports on the progress of work on a daily basis to Administrator Karachi.
