Karachi, June 17, 2013 (PPI-OT): KMC Administrator Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi has said that storm water drains were natural source of water drainage therefore arrangements for keeping them in fine condition should be made on constant basis and in this connection Municipal Services Department under effective strategy should do its work so that citizens could be prevented from inconvenience in rainy season.
He said this while reviewing cleanliness works of various nullahs being done with the help of heavy machinery. On this occasion he was accompanied by Sr. Director Municipal Services Dr. Shaukat Zaman, Director Machinery Pool Noman Arshad and other officers. Administrator Karachi visited PIDC nullah, Urdu Bazaar nullah, Soldier Bazaar nullah, Pitcher nullah, Frere Hall nullah and directed staff and officers deployed on cleanliness works.
He said that cleanliness of all big nullahs were very important but cleanliness and channelization of Soldier Bazaar nullah was pretty necessary as it goes through vital areas of the city and affected water flow in this nullah caused complaints of water accumulation emerged in adjoining areas of Urdu Bazaar, Sindh Assembly Building, High Court Building, Governor House area and other areas hence this nullah should be cleaned properly as soon as possible.
He said that Urdu Bazaar was a big center for sale and purchase of academic and other types of books where problems could occur during rains which could also affect academic activities therefore cleanliness of Urdu Bazaar nullah should be ensured.
Administrator Karachi said that garbage taken out from nullahs should be shifted to landfill site immediately otherwise possibility for falling of garbage into nullah again would remain. He also appealed citizens to avoid throwing garbage at the drains.
