Karachi, June 04, 2013 (PPI-OT): KMC Administrator Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi has said that arrangements of funds for Shahbuddin Market and Car Parking Plaza Project was being made so that old problem of parking in this central area of the city could resolve and the shopkeepers who were temporarily shifted to Lines Area could return and remaining shops of Shahabuddin Market could be allotted through a draw or auction.
He said this during a visit of Shahabuddin Market and Five-story Car Parking Plaza where he was accompanied by Sr. Director Transport and Communication Muhammad Athar, Chief Engineer Project, Superintendent Engineer and other officers.
On this occasion Sr. Director Transport and Communication informed that 50 percent construction works of Shahabuddin Market and Car Parking Plaza has been completed and remaining work would be completed soon.
He informed that 438 shopkeepers and stalls from Shahabuddin Market were temporarily shifted in front of Car Parking Plaza Saddar in 2009 for solving parking problem in this area so that development works could start and make this area beautiful whereas along with construction of market a five-story car parking plaza was also being built in this project where parking facility for a good number of different vehicles would be available.
After completion of initial phase of the project shopkeepers would be gradually shifted on lower ground floor whereas 131 shops have been constructed on ground floor which would be allotted to interested people through a draw.
He informed that 157 shops on mezzanine floor and 157 on first floor have been built and 12 to 18 feet wide corridors have also been built inside market and this facility was not available in any market so far whereas five stories were allocated for car parking plaza where 600 vehicles and hundreds of motorcycles could be parked at a time. Phase-I of this project would be completed with a cost of Rs735million.
Administrator Karachi Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi said that it was an important project and construction of this project should not delay. He said that KMC was also implementing a comprehensive Traffic Management Plan for this busy area which would help resolving traffic jam problem in Saddar. He directed officers to concentrate on standard in construction works of Shahabuddin Market and Parking Plaza and ensure completion of the project as soon as possible.
