Karachi: Administrator KMC Muhammad Hussain Syed has said that KMC was launching two mobile libraries in the city from next month where thousands of books on classical literature and on other subjects would be available for readers. This he said while talking on the World Library Day. Administrator Karachi said a book survives forever and the importance of books was acknowledged in every era.
In our society rapid changes were seen with the latest scientific inventions and the computers and cable transmissions had for now kept us away from books but our link with them never broke nor could it be broken ever. He said that libraries plays important role in the promotion of culture and literature and KMC was well aware of its responsibilities in this regard.
Very soon a large library would be given the status of model library along with the launching of mobile libraries. Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed said that mobile libraries would go to various areas of Karachi on a weekly basis and the people in these areas would be issued books.
He said that initially a sum of Rs20million had been sanctioned for the arrangement of big busses and books while the orders for purchase of busses were already issued. “KMC was also purchasing books for its libraries while a sum of Rs2million was used for purchase of books for the library of Karachi Medical and Dental College.
