Karachi, August 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): KMC Administrator Saqib Soomro has said that KMC and DMCs under a comprehensive strategy should work jointly for effective cleanliness works despite of financial problems and limited resources. Cleanliness of the city was first priority of Municipal departments therefore Municipal Services Department with the collaboration of five District Municipal Corporations should prepare comprehensive and effective strategy for better cleanliness condition in the city and in this connection provide relevant DMCs with vehicles, machinery and other equipment if required so that no hindrance in lifting of garbage from any area and disposing it on landfill sites would remain and available resources could be utilized for proper cleanliness of the city. He said this while addressing a meeting held on cleanliness situation in the city.
The meeting was attended by officers of Municipal Services and other concerned departments. He said that KMC and DMCs were facing problems due to shortage of funds however efforts were being made to pay attention to cleanliness of the city along with other works. Spray campaign was underway in various areas of the city whereas cleanliness works along with spray after recent rains were being carried out on preferential basis so that citizens could be prevented from expected viral diseases.
He directed that in case of rains prompt drainage of rainwater should be ensured. Administrator Karachi directed that all garbage, debris and other waste should be put on KMC landfill sites and Department of Solid Waste Management should provide Municipal Services Department with details of the work on daily basis. He said that along with disposal of garbage cleanliness works of all storm drains were also being carried out on priority basis so that citizens could be provided with clean and fresh environment.
