Karachi division has over 900,221 acres of land, of which 60,000 acres of government land has been illegally occupied

Karachi, May 19, 2016 (PPI-OT):The Karachi division has over 900,221 acres, of which 60,000 acres of government land has been illegally occupied by some provincial and federal organizations and housing authorities because there were around 681,000 acres Na-class land for which survey work has been started on war footing. This was disclosed in a meeting held here under the chairmanship of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah here at the CM House today. The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Alamuddin Bullo and Member Board of Revenue Syed Zulfikar Shah.

The chief minister said that the Supreme Court of Pakistan has given some directions for computerization of land record, “what the BoR has done so far,” he asked. The Member BoR, Zulfikar Shah said that the supreme court of Pakistan has directed the land record of different dehs burnt during the martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto be verified at taluka level. “We have started verification work in three talukas Jamshoro, Matiari and Tando Allahyar,” he said.

Through presentation, Mr Zulfikar Shah said that there are 6000 dehs all over Sindh, of them the record of 4000 dehs have been computerized. Just after the assassination of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, the record of 870 dehs was burnt and so far the BoR has retrieved and computerized the record of 520 dehs. The work on remaining 350 dehs was in progress. Replying to a question of the chief minister, the BoR member said that the Karachi division has over 900,221 acres of land, of which 681,000 acres was Naclass land or what it is termed a un-surveyed land and 641,406 acre was surveyed land.

“The illegal occupation always appear on the un-surveyed lands. This is why 60,000 acres of Sindh government are under the illegal occupation f different provincial and federal housing and development authorities and agencies,” he said and added that some of them are MDA, LDA, KPT and some housing authorities.

Replying to another question of the chief minister, the Member BoR said that 6000 acres of government land has been illegally occupied by private people. This shows that 60,000 acre government land has been grabbed by government agencies! The chief minister directed the BoR to expedite the survey work so that illegally occupation of the government land could be retrieved. “I would not allow anybody to illegally occupy even a single inch of Sindh government,” the said categorically.

Mr Zulkfikar Shah said that the computerized record has been verified by tapedar, mukhtiarkar and then by the assistant commissioner. The is the most safest way of verification and computerizing. The chief minister said that the supreme court has given observations that some fictitious entries have been made in the record. At this Mr Zulfikar Shah said that the khatidars have received over 6000 certified copies of their record of rights from 27 services centres of BoR established all over Sindh but not a single complaint of the factious record has been received so far.

“We are custodian of the record of rights and are making sincere efforts to make record genuine and perfect,” he said and assured the chief minister that not a single fictitious entry would be allowed at any cost. “Oh yes, there may be some mistakes and teething problems in the system and they would be rectified.

The member BoR said that he has also computerised thousands of deh maps which reflect survey numbers along with a detailed map of the land, area and ownership. “We are going to launch them very soon because this process has taken some times as most of the maps were damaged,” he said.

He showed different applications of the computerization system to the chief minister on his laptop in which the chief minister located {on the map} Faiz Mahal in tapa Khairpur, the tomb of Dooleh Darya Khan, a Commander of Kalhora rulers in Gajanpur Deh of Larkana and some other lands places. He expressed his satisfaction on the computerisation work done by BoR. The chief minister categorically directed the BoR to follow the directions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in completion of computerization work.
