Karachi and Puttalam declared sister cities

Karachi, November 13, 2012 (PPI-OT): KMC Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed and Mayer of Puttalam Abdul Bais have signed a (MoU) of declaring Puttalam and Karachi as sister cities and the representatives of Sri Lankan delegation and high officials of KMC were also present on this occasion.

Under the MoU cooperation and every possible help will be provided to citizens of Karachi and Puttalam whereas educational and medical departments of both cities will be affiliated and cultural delegations will be admired and information and resources between both cities will be exchanged and in this connection visits of representative delegations from government and private sectors will also be arranged.

On this occasion Mayor of Puttalam said that Puttalam was a big and important city of district and this city had significant status in producing salt, coconut, dolphin and prawns and 95 percent of population of Puttalam consists of Muslims.

And big and famous mosques, Sri Lankan big cement factory and coal power plant were also located in Puttalam which was constructed with a cost of Rs300million. He said various things in both cities were common and both cities especially in educational, medical and tourism sectors could avail each others’ experiments and new ways of developments could be opened.

Puttalam Mayor invites Pakistani brothers to visit Sri Lanka where they would feel at home. Administrator Karachi Muhammad Hussain Syed said that mutual relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka exist and both countries were having bilateral cooperation in trade, economics, education, health, tourism and other sectors which should be enhanced more. Renowned tourist Ibn-e-Batoota had declared Puttalam as a combination of beautiful and attractive of Arab and South Asian culture.

He said that Sri Lanka was an important country of South Asia which had a long history and this country after overcoming unrest and terrorism had got significant status in tourism in the region and its municipal system and suburban areas were developing.

MoU of Sister cities could help in completing development projects of Karachi in better way and in this connection we could avail from the experiments of Puttalam Administration. Afterwards Administrator Karachi accepted the invitation of Sri Lankan visit given by Sri Lankan Mayor and said that high officials delegation from KMC will visit Sri Lanka.
