Islamabad, December 02, 2012 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Mr. Qamar Zaman Kaira said that Pakistan will reiterate its stance for the permanent membership of SCO in view of the forum’s importance in economic cooperation and maintaining regional security.
Information Minister said that Pakistan would also like to benefit from the expertise of the SCO member countries in taking measures against terrorism and extremism Pakistan, being an observer has been an active participant in the activities of the organization which is quite evident from being the first to apply for the full membership of SCO, the Minister added.
SCO Heads of Government Council Meeting will be held on December 4-5, 2012 in Bishkek, the Capital of Kyrgyzstan. The meeting will focus on the prospects and measures for deeper cooperation in trade, economic and humanitarian field among SCO participating states.
SCO budget for 2013 and other issues related to financial and other organizational activities of SCO will also come within the purview. Furthermore, dates and venue of next SCO Heads of Governments Council Meeting will also be decided. Role of the SCO Business Council and SCO Interbank Association in implementing the Action Plan of Program of multilateral trade and economic cooperation will also be on the agenda.
It will be the 11th Heads of Government Council Meeting. Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is an inter-governmental organization which has now evolved into a multi faceted organization working for regional economic cooperation against terrorism, separatism, drug trafficking and organized crime.
The Minister hoped that Pakistan’s presence in the SCO Heads of Government Council Meeting will contribute and strengthen the SCO’s endeavors for the promotion of peace, security and overall harmony in the region. Minister for Information and Broadcasting will also address the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government on December 5, 2012.
