Karachi, August 19, 2015 (PPI-OT):KMC Administrator Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said citizens of Karachi faced numerous problems due to non implementation of powers received by KMC and DMCs through Local Government Act 2013. Addressing in a joint meeting of KMC and DMC officers in Committee Room of Civic Centre he said two years have passed since this act was approved and still municipal bodies were not performing their duties under it.
He stressed the need of implementation of powers conferred to local bodies so that the problems of citizens could be solved without delay. The distribution of powers, resources and assets for this purpose should also be in accordance to the law. The meeting was also attended by the metropolitan commissioner Samiuddin Ahmed and Administrators of district municipal corporations.
The officers and legal experts of KMC on this occasion gave detailed briefing on different sections of SLGA 2013 which explained the duties and responsibilities of KMC and DMCs. It was decided in the meeting that the subjects of local taxes and education were the responsibility of DMCs therefore these sectors should be transferred to DMC without delay.
The sanitation and lifting and disposal of offal during Eid-ul-Azha was also sole responsibility of DMCs. A committee headed by the metropolitan commissioner Sami-uddin Siddiqui would complete all the work regarding shifting of departments from KMC to DMCs in the transition period.
