Islamabad, July 18, 2012 (PPI-OT): Malik Riaz Hussain requested NAB’s Joint Investigation Team (JIT), probing Arslan-Malik Riaz case, for fresh date of appearance before JIT in next week as he has to appear before the honourable Supreme Court of Pakistan today in connection with contempt proceedings. NAB refused to entertain his request and issued a new summon for his appearance on July 19, 2012 (Thursday) at 1700hrs.
Cheque Distribution Ceremony for the Affectees of Double Shah Scam, case against Majid Naeem, Ex-Principal, PUCIT, Abdul Hafeez Nagi and M/s United Brokerage Consultant Pvt. Ltd.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Punjab distributed Rs. 46.3 million to affectees of Double Shah Scam, M/s United Brokerage Consultant Pvt. Ltd, Majid Naeem, Ex-Principal, PUCIT and Abdul Hafeez Nagi, Ex-Superintending Engineer GEPCO. Acting Director General Prevention, GP. Capt. (Retd) Shamsher Ali, distributed cheques to affectees in a ceremony held at NAB Punjab. Double Shah Scam has been the biggest scam of the history in which thousands of people were looted by the culprits.
Today cheques of Rs. 29.2 million were distributed to 192 affectees of Syed Sibut-ul-Hassan Gillani having claimed amount less than one lac rupees. It is worth mentioning that Syed Sibt-ul-Hassan Gillani has been convicted by the Accountability Court and sentenced for 14 year R.I. with fine of Rs. 5.43 billion and confiscation of all properties.
This amount is being recovered from the accused person for distribution among the affectees. NAB Punjab has established a special claim verification cell to speed up recovery and disbursement of payments to affectees of Double Shah Scam.
In another case, a cheque of Rs. 2.7 million was handed over to University of the Punjab recovered from Dr. Majid Naeem, Ex-Principal Punjab University College of Information Technology. Earlier a Reference was filed in Accountability Court against Dr. Majid Naeem on the allegation of misappropriation of government funds. Further to above, a cheque of Rs. 0.7 million was handed over to the affectees of Abdul Hafeez Nagi, Ex-Superintending Engineer GEPCO case which was recovered from the accused through voluntary return.
NAB Punjab also handed over cheques of Rs. 13.7 million @ 62% of their claimed amount to the affectees of M/s United Brokerage Consultant Pvt. Ltd. An Accountability Court Reference No. 26/2007 was filed against five directors of the company.
Three accused persons namely Muhammad Asad Kamran, Majid Saleem and Muhammad Anjum Latif opted for Plea Bargain of Rs. 15,092,427/- and deposited their whole liability. The trial against other two accused is in progress.
