Srinagar, October 12, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has started a sanitation drive in the worst flood-hit Rajbagh area of Srinagar.
The JI spokesman, Advocate Zahid Ali, in a statement issued in Srinagar said that during the campaign volunteers of the organization would help people in cleansing their houses and localities. He said that the during floods the water level in Rajbagh rose to around 25 feet submerging the houses, hotels, offices, guest houses, schools, shops and other buildings. Most of the structures in the area have either collapsed or have suffered damage, he added.
The spokesman said that the area remained under water for more than 20 days and the water was still present at few places with people criticizing the authorities for their failure. He said that the drive would continue till October 25 and would be extended if needed.
