The Islamic Awqaf (endowments) Department in Occupied Jerusalem called on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to immediately intervene to stop Israel’s violations in the area of Al-Buraq Wall part of the Western Wall of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Awqaf Department said in a statement on Monday that it is following with serious concern the increased pace of decisions and escalated violations by the Israeli occupation authorities against Al-Aqsa Mosque and its surroundings, especially in the area of Al-Buraq Wall and Umayyad Palaces, which are considered Islamic endowments and property of the Awqaf Department.
The Department added that the Hebrew-language newspapers announced on Monday that the Israeli municipality has recently approved, under pressure from the Office of Benjamin Netanyahu, a plan to expand the Western Wall plaza. It stressed that the seizure of this waqf area “is a blatant attack on the Muslim property”, noting that these Judaization projects in the proximity of Al-Aqsa Mosque can only be implemented with the force of occupation.
The Awqaf Department warned that these violations would cause radical change to pre-1967 religious and historical status in Jerusalem city.
