Islamabad, December 18, 2012 (PPI-OT): Japan delivered emergency relief goods to National Disaster Management Authority for the two flood affected districts of Balochistan at a Handing Over Ceremony held at Prime Minister’s Secretariat. Mr. Hiroshi Oe, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan handed over the goods to Dr Zafar Iqbal Qadir, Chairman NDMA.
Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) delivered 3,150 tents, 13,000 blankets and 3,652 plastic sheets, worth Yen 35 Million (USD 437,000) to the NDMA for Nasirabad and Jaffarabad districts in Balochistan. These districts were severely flooded and inundated by Floods 2011 and 2012.
Chairman NDMA, in his remarks, appreciated the gesture shown by the Japanese Government and thanked Mr Oe for the efforts. He said that Japan has always sided Pakistan in every catastrophe. Pak-Japan relations are fortifying with the passage of time. He said that he sees a bright future in collaboration with Japan.
Mr Oe expressed his sympathies to the Government of Pakistan for the suffering of the flood affected people. He said that Government of Japan feels privileged to help 4.85 Million flood-stricken people of Pakistan. The Government of Japan has provided emergency grant aid of USD 4.7 Million in addition to the relief goods for Balochistan.
He further recalled and appreciated the relief efforts made the GOP after the Great East Japan Earthquake and following Tsunami. He said this year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Pakistan. GOJ looks forward to strong ties with Pakistan for the next 60 years and beyond.
