Jaleel Andrabi case closed after Avtar confirmed dead

Srinagar, January 01, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, a court has closed the case against Major Avtar Singh, involved in killing prominent Kashmiri lawyer and human rights activist, Jaleel Andrabi after the Crime Branch submitted death certificate of the Major.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar, Rajeev Gupta dropped the proceedings against Major Avtar Singh after the Crime Branch confirmed his death to the Court by submitting the certificate from NCB Washington.

“I am convinced that Major Avtar Singh died on June 9, 2012,” the CJM held. The copy of death certificate was submitted by senior prosecuting officer of CB in the court. Major Avtar Singh killed himself along with his family members in California on June 9, last year. He was involved in the kidnapping and killing of prominent lawyer Jaleel Andrabi in 1996.
