Islamabad, March 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): A delegation of Russian Business Council for Cooperation with Pakistan (RBCCP) led by Mr.Sergey Dolgopolsky, Vice President of RBCCP and Managing Director Foreign projects visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) for discussing ways and means to enhance bilateral relations between Pakistan and Russia.
The delegation comprising of Mr.Artem Korenevskiy, Director DTH Pakistan, Mr.Vladimir Shreter, Political Counsellor, Mr.Sergey S.Dragunov, Consultant of Trade Representation of Russian Federation in Pakistan.
Mr.Sergey Dolgopolsky, Vice President of Russian Business Council for Cooperation with Pakistan said that RBCCP was formed with an objective to help the Russian and Pakistani Business Community to develop their business relations and promote the trade investment program which would enhance the businessmen partnership between two countries.
He said that main task of Council is to introduce both countries businessmen each other, especially those who desire to establish strong and long term trade relations. Mr.Sergey said that RBCCP is planning to organize trade events, conferences and exhibitions in Russia and Pakistan. He also invited ICCI members to become the members of RBCCP which would further strengthen the business relations between two countries.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Zafar Bakhtawari, President ICCI emphasized the need for enhancing private sector interaction and collaboration crucially important to promote bilateral trade. He said that Russian and Pakistani entrepreneurs should visit each other for exploring options of enhancing bilateral trade.
ICCI President said that Pakistan Steel Mills was a good example of past cooperation between Pakistan and Russia, therefore similar cooperation needs to be extended in many areas, particularly in energy as Russian is energy sufficient country.
He stated that unavailability of direct air links is the major obstacle that was impeding bilateral trade between Russia and Pakistan, adding that in early 90’s PIA operated to Moscow, therefore, restoration of such direct air-connectivity is important to improve mutual trade relations between both countries.
Mr.Bakhtawari said that Pakistan occupying a strategic and geo-political location could play a vital role in the development of its relationship with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries. He said that Russia should also provide support Pakistan to get the status of SCO member country as currently Pakistan, India, Iran, and Mangolia have the observer status in this organization.
