Islamabad: The promotion of country’s real heritage and culture is vital to highlight its true and soft image across the world.
Pakistan has a very rich and diverse culture, where people have their own indigenous traditions, life styles, craft and melodic heritage. Cultural festivals and exhibitions should be organized on regular basis that would not help Pakistan in accelerating trade and investment, but would also boost the declining tourism sector, Yassar Sakhi Butt, President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) made these remarks during a meeting with Mrs. Siddiqa Malik, Chairperson, Indus Heritage Trust (IHT).
He said that Pakistani handicrafts reflects the traditions and culture of Pakistan, adding that the carving art on wood and metal objects are the actual beauty of the hardworking craftsmen. ICCI President said that Pakistani handicrafts have not gained the attention of the world which it deserve, thus Government should pay due attention and promote the export of local handicrafts in the international markets.
Yassar Sakhi Butt was of the view that cultural festivals and exhibitions could put the economy back on track because they were the key to exhibit the untapped potentials of Pakistan and to introduce Pakistan’s products in the world market. Government should provide full facilitation in promoting exports by arranging such fairs and exhibitions, he emphasized.
ICCI president suggested that stakeholders including embassies of different countries could be engaged to promote culture of Pakistan. For strengthening and promoting Pakistan’s cultural heritage, the Government must allocate substantial amount from its annual development budget (PSDP) for promotion of arts and culture, he maintained.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Siddiqa Malik highlighted the role of Indus Heritage Trust in promotion of cultural heritage of Pakistan and said that IHT was striving hard to revitalize the multi-faceted cultural identity of Pakistan.
