Islamabad: Mr. Shakeel Ahmed Sheikh, President, Islamabad Cricket Association (ICA) along with a delegation visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI).
Speaking on the occasion, the President ICA said businessmen should accelerate their efforts to pull the city from crisis to the road to progress. He said ICA was ready to give one ground specifically to ICCI to promote sports activities.
He said ICCI should develop that ground on most modern lines which should serve as a model for others to emulate. ICA was ready to provide technical support to ICCI to develop said ground equipped with all required facilities, he added.
He was of the view that we should make Islamabad sports-wise the best city in the country. He said only NBP was providing permanent sponsorship to ICA to organize league matches and desired that ICCI should also support ICA in holding league tournaments.
President ICA informed the meeting that a state-of-the-art cricket stadium would be established in Islamabad at par with international standards containing hotel and other latest facilities. He said that ICA would also invite President ICCI in near future to further discuss the matters of mutual interest.
Speaking on the occasion, Yassar Sakhi Butt, President, ICCI congratulated him for his second consecutive election as the President of Islamabad Cricket Association.
He said that world knows that Pakistan has immense talent in sports as our country has produced world record holder players, especially in cricket, squash and hockey and we had been world champions in cricket, hockey and squash.
ICCI President said that apart from promoting the interests of business community, ICCI had been supporting healthy sports activities in the local area. He said that ICCI organized some cricket matches for business community and also for handicapped persons to encourage sports activities in the special persons and to give them confidence in their abilities.
Yassar Sakhi Butt said that Islamabad Chamber had also established good coordination with ICA as ICCI’s Sub-Committee on Sports and ICA enjoyed very good working relationship. ICCI in collaboration with ICA held cricket matches from time to time in Islamabad to promote the healthy sports activities, he added.
He hoped that both entities would continue to cooperate with each other in future, especially for engaging our youth in sports activities and promoting a healthy society.
