Islamabad, October 21, 2014 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Finance, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Tuesday chaired a specially convened meeting to evaluate gas supply situation in the country. The meeting had an overall appraisal of the situation in the wake of the forthcoming IMF review.
Gas supply to domestic, commercial and industrial sectors was discussed in detail. It was emphasized that gas supply should be carefully managed and maintained during winter in view of the considerably enhanced demand. Finance Minister, Ishaq Dar on this occasion said that while the government wanted to facilitate the domestic gas consumers, due attention would also be extended to the industrial sector which was backbone of the national economy.
The meeting was informed by Minister for P and NR that LNG supply would commence from the first quarter of the next year which would be utilized for the most efficient gas-based power plants. Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Secretary Finance, Dr. Waqar Masood, Secretary P and NR, Abid Saeed, Advisor Finance Division, Rana Asad Amin and other senior officials attended the meeting.
