Islamabad: Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Mr Alireza Haghinghian paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani at PM’s House today.
The Prime Minister said that he would direct the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Nawabzada Malik Amad Khan to follow the implementation of agreements concluded between Pakistan and Iran adding that his top priority was to follow their expeditious implementation including gas pipeline and import of electricity.
The Prime Minister said that he had extremely useful meeting with the Iranian President Mr Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during his visit to Islamabad to take part in tri-lateral meeting.
The Prime Minister said that Iran and Pakistan were having excellent multi-dimensional cooperation in the fields of trade, infrastructure, energy and culture. The Prime Minister underscored the importance of people to people contacts, visits of parliamentarians and exchanges of high level to further strengthen the relations on durable basis between the two brotherly neighbouring countries.
The Prime Minister extended his deep sense of gratitude to the people of Iran and the Iranian government for extending generous assistance to the flood and rain victims in Pakistan.
The Prime Minister hoped that the opening of Pakistan Consulate at Bandar Abbas would be expedited as it would reduce the distance for the Pakistan visitors to almost 1000 KM due to its location near Pakistan border.
The Prime Minister said that both the countries were committed to defeat the extremism and terrorism. Pakistan and Iran are working to bring stability in Afghanistan because stability in Afghanistan means stability in the whole region, the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister recalled that he represented Shaheed Benazir Bhutto to attend the funeral of Imam Khomenei.
The Prime Minister asked the Ambassador to extend his best wishes to the President, Senior Vice President and the Iranian Interior Minister and the Governors of Mashhad and Gilan.
The Prime Minister expressed his confidence that the new Ambassador to Pakistan would put in his best efforts to further strengthen relations between the two countries during his diplomatic assignment.
The Ambassador of Iran Mr Alireza Haghinghian during the meeting said that the relations between Pakistan and Iran were progressing well in the right direction.
The Ambassador apprised that negotiations regarding the purchase of wheat and rice from Pakistan had completed. The Ambassador further said that the two delegations from Pakistan representing water and power, oil and gas were visiting Iran.
The Ambassador underscored the importance of collaboration in the banking sector which will help realize the full potential of trade between the two countries.
The Ambassador conveyed the sympathies of the Iranian people and the leadership over the air-crash near Islamabad.
