Srinagar, December 28, 2015 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the High Court Bar Association has strongly condemned the arrest and detention of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Mohammad Yasin Malik, and other party leaders by Indian police. The Bar in a statement issued in Srinagar, today, said, “The Bar Association strongly feels that in a civilized society everybody has a right to speak. He has also the right to protest and show his dissent and displeasure on anything which he feels to be undemocratic, unfair, unjust and immoral.”
“The Bar Association feels that at a time when both India and Pakistan are holding talks to resolve their disputes, arresting Kashmiris including their leaders, lawyers, students and preachers puts a question mark on India’s sincerity in these talks. The statement condemned the arrest and detention of Shabir Ahmad Bukhari Advocate and two sons of Mehboob Shah of Handwara by the Indian police.
The Bar called upon the international community to take notice of the happenings in Kashmir and impress upon India to respect the human rights of the people of Kashmir. Meanwhile, the bar members during a meeting expressed condolences with Dukhtaran-e-Millat Chairperson Aasiya Andrabi over death of her mother.
