Investment Conference in Czech Republic to Be Held In May 2012

Islamabad: H.E Mr. Miroslav Krenek, the Ambassador of Czech Republic called on Mr. Saleem H. Mandviwalla, MOS/Chairman Board of Investment, to discuss about a proposed investment conference to be held in ICC (International Chamber of Commerce). ICC is the forum which brings together various heads and CEOs of investment companies for interaction and dealings.

SENTAX, a Czech company is interested to start a project of a steel mill near Port Qasim. The project would be funded by a Government bank of Czech Republic, the Czech Export Bank. In this regard, BOI will issue a letter of support to the company to start its operations under the cover of government.

The Ambassador invited the Chairman BOI to the investment conference. He said that such an effort would support the efforts of BOI to bring lucrative investment to Pakistan.

He also offered the MOS/Chairman BOI, to arrange high profile meetings with the Prime Minister of Czech Republic, and other government officials. The ambassador further informed that the investors of Czech are interested to invest in the sectors: IT, Steel Agriculture, Energy, Services and Transport.

The MOS/Chairman informed His Excellency that Pakistan has signed Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) in 1999 with Czech Republic and no significant inflows could be witnessed except a recent investment by M/S SITRONICS Pakistan, company of Czech Republic amounting to US $ 127,545/- in the year 2010 in IT sector. BOI on the basis of available data perceives a possibility of more bilateral economic cooperation in the fields of machinery, agriculture production and chemicals besides IT sector, he further apprised the Ambassador.
