Islamabad, April 17, 2014 (PPI-OT): The International Judicial Conference, 2014 is held at Supreme Court Building Islamabad from April 18th-April 19th. The conference is an endeavour to provide an opportunity to the international and national luminaries of law, leaders of the Bar and jurists to assemble under one roof and share their visions, experiences and best practices to address the problems confronting the administration of justice.
Judicial Conferences is a regular annual activity of the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan and so far six conferences (4 national and 2 international) have been organized. These conferences provided a common platform to the stakeholders of judicial system to share their thoughts on the legal and judicial problems and devise strategies for resolving the same and making the system more responsive to the emerging challenges.
The recommendations firmed up, as a consequence of deliberations, have helped in revisiting the existing laws and procedures, improving court administration, case management, strengthening and capacity building of justice sector institutions.
Judicial preview of administrative actions, role of judiciary in protecting human rights and access to justice in the context of constitutional requirements and role of judiciary in promotion of culture of tolerance have been selected for deliberations in the conference.
To make the event meaningful and result oriented, Hon’ble Chief Justices and Judges including jurists from other jurisdictions have been invited. In addition, renowned international and national jurists/scholars are expected to be presenting papers on the selected topics.
The previous Judicial Conferences have been proved highly productive due to active participation of academia, scholars, jurists and lawyers. These conferences have not only increased the level of awareness but also created a sense of ownership amongst the stakeholders by involving them in the policy making process.
A strong and vibrant judicial system can ensure rights through fair administration of law. The judicial system in Pakistan is in evolutionary stage and confronting new and complicated challenges. It is hoped that the conference will help in strengthening our commitment to resolve these problems successfully.
