Islamabad, March 26, 2014 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan was given a presentation on Tarnol Railway crossing traffic solution here this afternoon by Chairman National Highway Authority (NHA) Mr. Shahid Ashraf Tarar. The Minister directed NHA to find solution to the traffic problem at this important intersection.
Chairman NHA informed the Minister that in the short term two U-Turns would be made on both sides of Tarnol Railway crossing on N-5 while extra lanes would also be constructed on this road to ease the flow of traffic on GT road. The number of Railway gates would be increased from two to four. The project would cost Rs. 247.625 million.
The Minister directed NHA to start work immediately and ordered for its completion within six months. He also passed instructions to the district administration to take special measures to manage traffic flow during this period so that general public may not suffer at the hands of this development process.
The Chairman informed the Minister that this project will facilitate the nearly 69000 vehicles that pass through this crossing every day. Decision regarding construction of an underpass or Flyover at this point on N-5 will be decided after consultation with public representatives of Rawalpindi and Islamabad and keeping in view other technical details in the next few months.
