Information Technology can help promote good governance: Governor

Karachi: Governor of Sindh, Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan that the usage and promotion of information technology can help the government to achieve the objectives of the good governance as well as the betterment and welfare of the people.

He was talking on the occasion of presentation of the Sindh Department of Information Technology at the Governor House here on Thursday. The Governor said that it augurs well that the Department of Information Technology has made headway in the province.

Sindh Minister for Information Technology, Raza Haroon, apprised the Governor, of the details in this regard. He said that “it is our mission to act as the enabler for building a knowledge-based society in all spheres of human activity across industry, academia, administration and governance.

The Governor said that the governance programme and coordinating all the departments with this system would also benefit the people in getting their problems resolved with convenience and speed. He stated that through the concept of tele medicine the treatment facilities can be spread to far flung areas and every nook and corner.

Dr. Ebad said that the maintenance of computerized record of land and other areas would also promote the concept of good governance. He also lauded the contributions of the Sindh Minister for Information Technology, Raza Haroon.

The Governor said that Raza Haroon implemented the chief of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Altaf Hussain’s vision of development and betterment through the usage of information technology. He urged all the departments to work on priority basis in order to strengthen the governance programme.

A transparent system is essential to put the country on the path of progress and development. Raza Haroon said on the occasion that with the headway in information technology there is a considerable improvement in the province.

He stated that there is enhancement in creation of employment opportunities, better management and provision of more facilities to the people in a shorter period of time. The Minister also apprised of the details regarding the IT projects in the province.
He informed that on the Link Road and IT City is being set up on 200 acres with Rs. 148.7 million. A big amount of foreign direct investment is also expected. Raza Haroon also shed light on the projects of epolicing, hospital management information system, GIS for the Sindh Government.
