President KCCI, Abdullah Zaki, while welcoming the delegation, appreciated various initiatives undertaken by the Indus Hospital to provide free of cost healthcare services to the needy patients.
He said that the Indus Hospital was doing a fine job of providing free healthcare services through its state-of-the-art hospital situated in Korangi. Abdullah also extended full support to the Indus Hospital so that the hospital could further strengthen its position in the health sector.
Vice President KCCI, Muhammad Idrees; Former President KCCI, Majyd Aziz; KCCI Managing Committee Members, Farhan Hanif, Zafar Saeed Baghpatee and others were also present on the occasion.
CEO Indus Hospital, Dr. Abdul Bari Khan said that support of the generous donors has enabled the hospital to provide free healthcare facilities to thousands of patients visiting the hospital. He urged the business community to support the IHBC by donating funds and blood.
He also requested KCCI Office Bearers to make arrangements for setting up a Blood donation camp at the chamber, besides requesting KCCI members and staff to generously donate blood for this noble cause. KCCI President immediately agreed to provide space at KCCI premises for setting up this camp and assured that KCCI members and staff will be asked to come forward for this noble cause.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Indus Blood Center, Dr. Saba Jamal briefed the KCCI members about the functioning of hospital’s blood bank which provides best services to the patients seeking blood.
She said that the Indus Hospital has installed state-of-the-art equipment at the blood bank which has been imported from Germany and United States. She said that IHBC is Pakistan’s first centralized blood center and provides international quality screened blood to partner hospitals across the city.
Explaining the blood collection and screening process at IHBC, she said that blood is obtained solely from ‘Voluntary Blood Donors’, ensuring low-risk donations whereas an ‘Online Blood Ordering System’ is also available for partner hospitals where they may make requests for the required quantity of blood online. The IHBC supplies screened and tested blood directly to the partner hospitals, maintaining the cold chain which ensures that the blood reaching the patient is optimal, she added.
Dr. Saba further said that blood components such as the platelets, red blood cells and fresh frozen plasma are separated as there are hospitals that need platelets more than red blood cells and they tend to waste the product they don’t need. The center collects the blood, makes products and distributes them to the hospitals according to their requirements.
