Indian trooper kills five colleagues before suicide

Srinagar, February 27, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, an Indian trooper shot five of his colleagues to death before shooting himself at an Army camp in Ganderbal district. The trooper of the Indian Army’s 13 Rashtriya Rifles identified as Ranveer Singh entered the guardroom and opened indiscriminate fire, killing five troopers, at 3 Sector Baram-Pater Manasbal camp in the district.

The trooper later also killed himself, a police officer said. Lt. Col. N.N. Joshi, public relations officer at Indian Army’s Srinagar-based 15 corps, said that a court of inquiry had been ordered into the incident.

Meanwhile, another Indian trooper of 10 Rashtriya Rifles identified as Ashok Singh Shikhwat committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Doda. The latest incidents raised the number of such deaths among the Indian troops and police personnel to 304 since January 2007.
