Srinagar, April 14, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Indian police have arrested at least seven youth in nocturnal raids in Baramulla town.
Locals told media men that these youth were arrested for taking part in pro-freedom demonstrations.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police, Baramulla, JP Singh, in a media interview confirmed the arrests. He said that the police had detained seven persons on the charges of stone-pelting.
“The continued arrest spree is provoking the youth to indulge in stone pelting. Why did police arrest the youth on Friday night if no call for shutdown was given for Saturday? The arrest will lead to more violent protests,” the locals said.
They said over a dozen people have been arrested by police during night raids in the last three days from the old town.
