Indian forces use journalists as human shields in IOK

Srinagar, March 18, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the journalists covering protest demonstrations have said that Indian Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have misbehaved with them using them as human-shields during anti-India protests over the killing of a youth, Farhat Dar in Hajan town.

One of the journalists, said: “There were intense clashes in the town and we went there to cover it. Once we reached near Hajan bridge, the personnel of CRPF 45 battalion stopped us from performing our professional duty and misbehaved with them.”

“But, what they did later was surprising. They used three journalists among five as human-shields by pushing them in the middle by saying cover the protests now,” he added.

The three injured journalists who were used as human-shields were identified as Sofi Ajaz of Times Now, Firdous Ahmad of IBN7 and Mir Aftab of Hind Samachar.

The journalists also said that CRPF personnel forced them to delete the pictures. “They were anxious and asked us to delete the pictures which we clicked,” a journalist said.

“For 10 minutes we were kept as hostages and guns were placed on our shoulders when CRPF was hurling stones back towards protesters,” said Aftab Ahmad, adding they were beaten up ruthlessly when they tried to resist the action.
