Srinagar, June 03, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, speakers at a function in Srinagar have said that most of the Indian authors have distorted the facts in their books about the Kashmir saga.
On the occasion of a book release ceremony in Srinagar, the speakers made a special mention of writer and author, A G Noorani’s latest book released a few weeks back. They said that the author had grossly distorted the facts about Kashmir in his book.
The function was held to release a book “Flashback-Kashmir story since 1846”, authored by a Kashmiri journalist, Zahiruddin. Zahiruddin in his introductory speech said that the idea behind writing the book was to give a background of various events. “As long as memories of Kunanposhpora are with me I will continue to fight for justice,” he said.
Writer and columnist, Dr Altaf Hussain rapped A G Noorani of distorting facts about Kashmir. Altaf said that the saddest part of the Kashmir saga was that most of it was written by their oppressors. “However, the Kashmiris now have started to write their own account. Our voice has been muzzled but it is important to rectify the distortion,” he added.
Dr Altaf said that he was very much impressed by the work of A G Noorani, but his recent book released at the banks of Nigeen Lake had saddened him. “Only to appease some people a writer like Noorani distorted facts about Kashmir,” he said. Citing the book, Altaf said that Noorani had accused Muhammad Ali Jinnah of being an obstacle in Kashmir resolution, which was a wrong perception.
Dr Sheikh Showkat Hussain said that there were two types of writers: one standing for a cause and the talking about the status quo. “But we will overshadow them though we don’t have resources like them,” he said.
A galaxy of scholars, writers and journalists including Z G Muhammad, Hameeda Nayeem, Dr Javed Iqbal, Anwar Ashai, Abdul Majeed Zargar, Shakeel Qalandar and Zamrooda Habib was present on the occasion.
