India urged to release political prisoners before Eid

Jammu, July 27, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples’ Movement (JKPM), a constituent of the All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC), has called upon India to release all political prisoners before Eid so that they could celebrate the festival with their families.

The APHC leader and senior vice chairman of JKPM, Mir Shahid Saleem in a statement issued in Jammu said it has been known convention of even autocratic rulers throughout the history that not only political detainees but criminals were released on the occasion of Eid and other religious festivals. But the govt of India is breaking all conventions and traditions in this regard.

He said hundreds of prisoners are languishing in the jails of Kashmir and India on concocted and fake charges. He said India in spite of using worst kind of oppression and suppression has failed to crush the ongoing freedom struggle in Kashmir, and its under that very policy that they have put hundreds of innocent youth in jails. Mir Shahid Saleem also condemned the spree of arrests during the past several weeks across Kashmir.
