Srinagar, March 23, 2017 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that India has converted Jammu and Kashmir into a police state where the puppet administration is making all its efforts to spread sense of insecurity among the people.
The forum spokesman in a statement in Srinagar strongly condemned the continued house arrest and detention of Hurriyet leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, and arrest of scores of youth from across the occupied territory. He termed such dictatorial measures as political vendetta.
The spokesman said that the occupation authorities were violating the basic human, democratic and political rights of the people and Hurriyet leadership and were muzzling their voices through use of brute force. He said that such brutal tactics could not deter the Kashmiris from continuing their just struggle for securing their right to self-determination.
The spokesman denounced the harassment and arrest of forum’s activists including Farooq Ahmad Saudagar and Abdul Rasheed Tanki. He said that the houses of Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Sufi Mushtaq, Sahil Ahmad and others were raided by the police. He also condemned the nocturnal raids in Srinagar and Pulwama during which dozens of people were arrested.
The spokesman expressed solidarity with the victims of Chattisinghpora massacre in which 35 members of Sikh community were killed by Indian troops in March 2000. He said that Chattisinghpora massacre and hundreds of other such brutalities committed by Indian forces’ personnel in occupied Kashmir should be investigated by independent agencies. He appealed to the international human rights bodies to intervene to provide justice to the victims.
Meanwhile, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in a statement in Srinagar felicitated the government and people of Pakistan on their National Day. He said that the Muslims of Subcontinent had secured this country after rendering unparalleled sacrifices. He said that Pakistan was the only country of the world that was extending unconditional moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiris’ just struggle for securing their inalienable right to self-determination. The Mirwaiz said that a strong Pakistan was imperative for the political and economic stability of the South Asian region.
