Independence Day Celebrations in Pakistan Embassy, Brussels

Islamabad: A flag hoisting ceremony to celebrate the 65th Independence Day was held at Pakistan Embassy here this morning. The Ambassador of Pakistan to Belgium, Luxembourg and European Union H.E Mr. Jalil Abbas Jilani hoisted the National Flag with National anthem playing in the background in a simple but impressive and graceful ceremony. It was largely attended by Pakistani community residing in Brussels and other cities of Belgium as well as the officials of the Embassy and other distinguished guests.

The Independence Day messages of the President of Pakistan Mr. Asif Ali Zardari and the Prime Minister, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani were read out by Mr. Muhammad Ayub, Counsellor and Mr. Amjad Qazi, First Secretary respectively. In their separate messages they expressed determination of coalition PPP-led government to vigorously pursue the objective of taking Pakistan along the path of prosperity, progress and democracy. Pakistan came into being as a result of democratic, political and constitutional struggle, therefore, it is in democracy and representative rule that Pakistan’s future lies. Pakistan has successfully taken on the challenges of terrorism and extremism under the present democratic government in line with our national interests and global commitment. By the grace of God, Pakistan has a functioning democracy, independent judiciary, and a vocal parliament. Above all, the Pakistani expatriate community living abroad is also playing their role in the development of not only their host country but also of Pakistan.

Addressing the participants of the ceremony, the Ambassador congratulated the Pakistani community residing in Belgium on this auspicious occasion. He eulogized Quid-e- Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah for his dynamic leadership and relentless struggle the Muslims of the sub-continent waged for a separate homeland. He also appreciated the self-determination of Kashmiri people against atrocities of Indian forces. He exhorted Pakistani community to maintain unity among their rank and file and continue to work for the promotion of soft image of Pakistan – an image of progress and prosperity, of freedom and equality and of tolerance and acceptance. Pakistan has successfully taken on the challenges of terrorism with the support of people of Pakistan. Pakistan’s security forces and people have rendered huge sacrifices both in material and physical terms to protect their national identity. The people of Pakistan are resilient and will overcome the challenges that are confronting our country today, he said. He lauded the efforts of the community that had always given much needed support to Pakistan’s economy and to its development.
