Lahore, March 14, 2017 (PPI-OT): Punjab Minister Industries, Trade and Investment would be the Chief Guest at inaugural session of the two-day 2nd SME Conference-International to be held by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) tomorrow (Wednesday) in collaboration with University of Management and Technology (UMT). Whereas, the closing session on Thursday evening would be addressed by Mr. Ghulam Murtaza Khan Jatoi, Federal Minister Industries and Production. It was informed by Mr. Sher Ayub, Chief Executive Officer of SMEDA, while describing thematic areas of the conference in a statement issued here today. He told that basic theme of the conference this year is “Catalysing SME Growth through Research”. Under this theme, the conference will deliberate four sub-thematic areas; “Developing a Conducive Business Environment”, “Local and International Market Development for SMEs”, “Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development”, and “Access to Finance”, he added and hoped that the conference’s recommendations would be helpful in influencing policy reform and supporting the creation of a robust, best practice SME ecosystem in Pakistan.
CEO SMEDA told that the Conference is going to provide a platform to stakeholders including academia, researchers, SMEs, public and private sector representatives as well as international development agencies to share their experiences. He informed, over 50 research papers from around 15 national and international universities were received for the conference, however, only 12 of these have been selected for presentation in the Conference. This is, but a reflection of the high standard that the conference maintains, he said and informed that besides a number of international delegates, speakers from 40 public and private sector organizations would be joining the conference as speakers, SME experts and panellists from across Pakistan.
CEO SMEDA has specially appreciated UMT for its cooperation in organizing the conference as a major partner and also acknowledged the support from University of Lahore, AMDIP, George Mason University, UNIDO, SPX Pakistan, Investment Promotion Unit, BCNED, for being partners in this conference.
It is notable that the conference is also being attended by international SME experts from USA, UK, Turkey, Japan, Italy, Malaysia, Netherland, Germany and China.
