Inaugural round of bilateral consultations between Pakistan and Spain held

Islamabad, March 05, 2014 (PPI-OT): The inaugural round of Bilateral Political Consultations was held between Pakistan and Spain in Madrid on 4th March 2014. The Pakistan delegation was led by Mr. Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Foreign Secretary and included Pakistan’s Ambassador to Spain, Mr. Rizwan-ul-Haq Mahmood. The Spanish side was headed by Mr. Gonzalo de Benito Secades, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.

The Consultations focused on review of bilateral relations and possibilities of strengthening cooperation in diverse areas of bilateral interest. Special focus was placed on enhancing investment in energy and agriculture sectors in Pakistan.

Possibility of education and cultural cooperation, development of institutional linkages and enhancing people-to-people contacts were also discussed. The two sides also reviewed the status of various MoUs and agreements between the two countries.

The two delegations also exchanged views on regional and global issues of common interest. The next round of Political Consultations would be held in Islamabad in 2015 at mutually convenient dates.
