IHK HC orders judicial probe into custodial disappearance

Srinagar, December 22, 2012 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the High Court has ordered a judicial enquiry into the disappearance of a civilian, who was picked up by Indian Army from Delegate in 2000.Family of Mukhtar Ahmad Baig of Sonawar area of Srinagar had filed a petition seeking directions for the judicial probe into his enforced disappearance.

A bench of Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar directed the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, to conduct investigation into the case and submit report within two months after counsel for the petitioner, Mir Shafaqat Hussain, pleaded for the probe.

Earlier the court had ordered a similar probe into the disappearance of Firdous Ahmad Bawan. Both Baig and Bawan had disappeared on 25th September in 2000. It is to mention here that the police had closed the case as untraced in 2005.
