Srinagar, September 22, 2016 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, the Hurriyet forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has welcomed the statement of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in which it has asked India to stop its atrocities in occupied Kashmir and resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations and the relevant UN resolutions.
The forum spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “Not only the Islamic countries but also US, Britain, France, Germany, China, Italy and various European countries have been calling upon India to stop killings in Kashmir and put an immediate end to human rights violations. These countries have also asked India to save the entire region from death and destruction by resolving the long-pending Kashmir dispute through meaningful and result-oriented dialogue process.”
The spokesman also welcomed the statement of Government of Turkey which announced to send a fact-finding mission to Kashmir to assess the deteriorating situation, killings and human rights violations in Kashmir, as it chairs the Human Rights Commission of the OIC.
The spokesman expressed satisfaction over holding of pro-freedom demonstrations and rallies by the people of occupied Kashmir despite continued curfew and other restrictions. He condemned the use of brute force on peaceful protesters by Indian police and troops in the occupied territory.
He termed the house arrest and detention of Hurriyet leaders including Syed Ali Gilani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and shifting of Muhammad Yasin Malik to Joint Interrogation Centre at Humhama in Srinagar as undemocratic and unethical action. He also denounced the slapping of the draconian law, Public Safety Act, on noted human rights defender, Khuram Parvez, arrests and house arrests of other resistance leaders, workers and youth, terming these arbitrary measures as totalitarian and dictatorial which reflected the arrogance of the puppet regime.
The spokesman thanked the people of Banihal and Kishtwar for their continued support and involvement with the ongoing freedom movement. “It is a befitting reply to India’s deliberate and misleading narrative that the freedom movement is limited to the Valley,” he added. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the forum leader, Javaid Ahmed Mir, who recently underwent surgery in both of his eyes.
