Karachi: There will be a public holiday in Sindh on Saturday, the 11th of Rabiul Awwal. This was decided at a meeting presided over by Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan at the Governor’s House on Thursday. The ban on pillion-riding has been lifted for the 11th and 12th of the holy month.
Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Hussain Wassan told the meeting that an elaborate security plan had been prepared for the 12th of Rabiul Awwal.
Ulema from various schools of thought who also attended the meeting assured the security administration of their cooperation. They said they would maintain harmony and in case of a dispute, would sit together to resolve it.
The governor lauded the harmony witnessed during Muharram and said he hoped that the same spirit would be in evidence during Rabiul Awwal which, he added, would be celebrated in a befitting manner.
Dr Ebad also issued directives for the uninterrupted supply of electricity and water besides maintenance of cleanliness.
Mr Wassan said a plan was in place for Eid-i-Milad celebrations and it would be strictly implemented.
The meeting was also attended by officials of the law-enforcement agencies and the civil administration.
