Srinagar, October 26, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, APHC leader and the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement (JKSM), Zafar Akbar Butt has said that holding farcical elections in an internationally recognized disputed territory like Kashmir will remain a meaningless exercise till resolution of Kashmir dispute.
Zafar Akbar Butt in a statement, issued in Srinagar deplored the announcement of elections by the Indian Election Commission and said that announcement was equivalent to rubbing salt on wounds of flood-hit Kashmiris.
He said that the announcement exposed the insensitiveness of Indian government towards the people of Flood-hit Kashmiris. “Instead of allowing international aid for rehabilitating flood victims, Indian government is pursuing agenda of strengthening its illegal rule over the Kashmir,” Zafar said, adding seeking votes from flood victims residing in tents and shelters was the worst kind of human rights violation.
He said that in 2005 when earthquake hit Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan had allowed the international organizations for helping the victims but the Indian government blocked international aid.
Zafar Akbar said that Kashmiris had always rejected such futile electoral process, as the staged polls in the disputed territory could never be a substitute for the right to self-determination. He said that Kashmiris had not rendered innumerable sacrifices for the sake of power, but for securing their basic political right-the right to self-determination guaranteed by the United Nations and the international community.
He urged people to remain cautious about the nefarious designs of the Indian government and its collaborators in the territory.
Meanwhile, APHC leaders, Javed Ahmad Mir and Imtiaz Ahmad Reshi in their statements supported call for strike, tomorrow, on October 27.
