Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said that a historic relief package has been given to the people in Ramzan and funds of billions of rupees have been provided for implementation of this package. He said that elected representatives and administration will play an active role for providing quality essential items to the people on reasonable rates and Price Control Committees will be responsible to maintain quality and prices of daily use items across the province.
Issuing instructions to the members of Provincial Price Control Committee, from London today, Shehbaz Sharif said that it is responsibility of the government to provide relief to the masses and a comprehensive Ramzan Package has been announced for this purpose. He said that a subsidy of Rs.5 billion is being given for providing flour to the people at concessionary rate. He said that 10kg flour bag will be available in Ramzan bazaars at Rs.290 whereas it will available at Rs.310 in open market. Similarly, 20kg flour bag will be sold at Rs.620 in open market. He said that in order to provide quality essential items to the citizens at cheaper rates, more than 300 Ramzan bazaars besides two thousand Madni Dastarkhawan are being set up throughout the province whereas 25 model bazaars will also operate as Ramzan bazaars. The Chief Minister said that sugar, ghee, chicken, fruits, vegetables and eggs will be available at concessionary rates in Ramzan bazaars. He said that all possible steps are being taken for ensuring that fruits of Ramzan Package should reach the common people. He said that price control committees have been set up in the province whereas strict action would be taken against those involved in overcharging and special powers have been delegated to Price Control Magistrates in this regard. He said that all DCOs will monitor auctioning process in vegetable markets throughout the province whereas Provincial Ministers and Secretaries will also visit Ramzan bazaars to review quality, supply and prices of essential items. He said that elected representatives will also pay visits to Ramzan bazaars of their respective districts. He directed that necessary facilities should be provided to the masses on priority basis in Ramzan bazarrs. Shehbaz Sharif said that he will personally monitor implementation of Ramzan package and every penny of Ramzan package will be spent on providing relief to the people and no compromise will be made on quality of daily use items.
