Hina meets her Chinese counterpart

Islamabad, July 12, 2012 (PPI-OT): Foreign Minister Ms. Hina Rabbani Khar held a bilateral meeting with the Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Yang Jiechi, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Meeting in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on 11 July 2012.

The two Foreign Ministers took stock of the recent developments in relations between Pakistan and China and expressed satisfaction on the state of extensive cooperation between the two countries in areas of mutual interest.

They underscored the fact that the time – tested friendship between the two countries had translated, over time, into mutually beneficial strategic partnership, which was reflected in a number of projects currently in progress.

The two countries stood for peace, stability and development in the region and vowed to work together towards this end. They exchanged views on regional and international issues including Afghanistan and emphasized the importance of a smooth and timely transition in Afghanistan for regional stability.

The Ministers viewed with satisfaction their ongoing co-operation in the regional and multilateral forums.

Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi recalled the recent visit of President Asif Ali Zardari to the People’s Republic of China in the first week of June to attend the SCO Summit. In his meetings with Chinese President Hu Jintao and Vice-President Xi Jinping, the leaders had set the course of future cooperation in areas of infrastructure development, regional connectivity, agriculture, energy and financial sectors. The Foreign Ministers underscored the need to implement the various decisions, pertaining to these areas, reached during their meetings.

The Chinese Foreign Minister appreciated contribution by the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani in strengthening Pakistan-China relations. He recalled that the Chinese leadership had sent message of felicitations to Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on the assumption of office with whom they wanted to work closely to bring Pakistan-China relations to new heights.

The Foreign Ministers expressed satisfaction at the increased interaction between the two countries at various levels and underscored their common commitment to further enhance Pakistan-China relations under the guidance of their leadership.
