High level meeting review development projects

Karachi: Administrator KMC Muhammad Hussain Syed said only those projects would get funds under annual development program which were already in the stage of completion or reached the advance stage and would complete in the current financial year. He said this while addressing a meeting to review the pace of work on various ongoing development schemes and projects and preparations of next schemes under annual development program.

The meeting which last over five hours was also attended by Municipal Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan, D.G Technical Services Altaf G. Memon, Financial Advisor Amir Khursheed, Senior Director Medical Services Dr. Nasir Javed, Senior Director Health Services Dr. Shoukat Zaman, Director Planning Finance Farhan Durrani and heads of other departments, chief engineers and other officials.

Administrator Karachi said education and health sector schemes were given priority in the annual development program. A sum of Rs441million was allocated for 46 schemes in education sector out of which Rs260million had been released so far. Work on these 46 schemes underway in different areas of Karachi and more than 50 percent of work was completed and some of the schemes were nearing completion.

On this occasion he directed Finance Department to release the remaining funds for these schemes without delay.

Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed said an amount of Rs337million had been earmarked for 25 schemes in health sector out of which Rs232million were released so far and used in the development works of seven small and big hospitals in the city while Rs78million were released for purchase of furniture and equipments for these hospitals.

The sum of Rs 616million was allocated for 54 schemes of constructions of flyovers, bridges and highways out of which about Rs438million were released and nearly 20 schemes would be completed with this amount.

He directed D.G Technical Services to ensure good standard in the construction of roads and full monitoring of works through the chief engineers.

Administrator Karachi said a total of 11 schemes in transport and communication sector were currently going on with a cost of Rs161million while two big projects including Yousuf Goth Bus Terminal and Shahabuddin Market Saddar Phase-I were completed and three new pedestrian bridges were installed in the city.

He said three schemes in information technology sector were started with a cost of Rs60million and so far Rs30million were spent on these schemes which includes land management system and data center. Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed said 45 schemes in parks and horticulture sector were also incorporated in the annual development program with a cost of Rs382million.

This includes the construction of five big sports stadiums and three new parks. It was informed that six water and sewerage schemes were initiated for rural areas especially Malir, Gadap and Kemari with a cost of Rs120million and a sum of Rs55million was already released for these schemes. The meeting also reviewed the renovation of various schools and hospitals in the city.
