Islamabad, September 21, 2015 (PPI-OT): In view of high transmission season of Dengue in the country, an emergency meeting of stakeholders was held today in Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination on the directions of the Minister for National Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar. The meeting took stock of the situation including the current case load of Dengue and efforts being made for its prevention and control. Reports of Dengue cases from part of the country were viewed with concern. Dr. Assad Hafeez, Director General Health chaired the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, DG Health offered all out support to the Provinces in meeting the challenges. He called on Provincial Health Departments to redouble efforts for prevention and control of the disease focusing on public awareness and vector control. The Directorate of Malaria of the Ministry was directed to assist the Provinces in this context. He informed that Minister will take up the issue of Dengue Prevention and Control in the next meeting of the Regional Committee seeking advice for the Global Fund to provide technical support for Dengue Prevention and Control alongside malaria.
