Haiku Mushaira held at Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi

Islamabad, April 01, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Consulate-General of Japan at Karachi and Pakistan Japan Cultural Association, Sindh (PJCA), jointly organized the 30th Haiku Mushaira on March 30th at the Arts Council of Pakistan in Karachi. Haiku is a Japanese form of poetry, which consists of 17 syllables, in the three phrases of 5, 7 and 5 syllables respectively. It conveys the essence of the experience of the nature and the season in a concise way.

Over 30 poets participated in this event and presented 5 works of Haiku in Urdu; 1 Urdu translation of a work of Mr. Kyoshi Takahama, a Japanese famous Haiku poet, 3 original works in Urdu and 1 work under the title of “Sooraj” or “Aftab”.

Mr. Mehmood Shaam presided over the Haiku Mushaira. Remarks were given by Ms. Sadia Rashid, the President of PJCA, and Mr. Akira Ouchi, Consul- General of Japan at Karachi. They congratulated on the 30th Anniversary of Haiku Mushaira, being held every year since 1983, and appreciated Pakistani people’s growing interest in Haiku Mushaira and their contribution towards strengthening the mutual friendship between Japan and Pakistan through Haiku.
