Govt resolve to ensure non-stop supply of LNG supported

Islamabad, March 16, 2017 (PPI-OT): Islamabad Chamber of Small Traders on Thursday lauded the resolve of the government to ensure uninterrupted supply of LNG to reduce energy crisis.

It also supported the decision of the government to initiate negotiation with Iran for supply of natural gas on reduced prices.

Pakistan should also explore the option of importing LNG and LPG from Iran after sanctions are waived as we are in dire need of these resources, said Patron Islamabad Chamber of Small Traders Shahid Rasheed Butt.

He demanded steps to cull the circular debt which has become a threat to the economy and investment in the energy sector.

Pakistan can not only fulfil its energy needs through gas pipelines from Iran and Turkmenistan but also play a role in improving global energy situation as it neighbours China and India, two fastest developing economies.

Central Asian and Iranian gas can flow to Pakistan and later to India as it is the cheapest route, he added.

Shahid Rasheed Butt said that 1800 km TAPI pipeline is a 10 billion dollar project which can transport 33 billion cubic meter gas per day while it will benefit over 1.5 billion people. The pipeline would benefit another billion people if China start getting the natural gas to spur its economy, he said.

Natural gas from South Paras gas field or Iran will also improve energy situation in Pakistan through a 2775 km pipeline but it requires nod of western powers, he said.
