Karachi, October 10, 2012 (PPI-OT): Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan inaugurated Umer Sharif park in Clifton on Wednesday. He also inspected the construction work at Bagha-e-Ibne Qasim, link road from Grammar College to street no. 11 Clifton and Abdullah Shah Ghazi Shrine.
Those who were present on this occasion include member provincial assembly Muqeem Alam, Administrator Karachi Muhammad Hussain Syed, Commissioner Karachi Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi, D.G Parks Niaz Ahmed Soomro, Actor Umer Shareef and a good number of actors, singers and dignitaries.
Governor of Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan on this occasion said that previously parks named after singer Mehdi Hassan and actor Moin Akhtar were made in the city and now a park was being named after famous artist Umer Shareef who served the nation and country. Parks and corridors would be named after players and artists also.
He said that Legend Trust had been established for providing financial aid to more than 30 artists. He said that artists were like the ambassadors of our country and Pakistan was recognized in reference to those artists. He said that Umer Shareef is very famous in public.
Governor of Sindh said the citizens of Karachi were waiting for start of Mega Projects which we have begun now. He said four flyovers at Shahrah-i-Paksitan and other corridors were being constructed, construction of hospitals, recreation facilities were being provided and I congratulate President Asif Ali Zardari, P.M Raja Parvez Ashraf and Altaf Hussain for their efforts due to which development works had been started.
Administrator Karachi Muhammad Hussain Syed said that KMC considered it as its duty to do development works, improvement of arts and literature, sports and serve the country which brought soft image of the city before the world. He said that this park was consist of 2.3 acres land and was constructed with a cost of Rs26million.
He said that following the directive of Governor of Sindh this park had been named after Umer Shareef in his life, development works would also continue. Umer Shareef while addressing said that on this occasion he was very happy and thankful to Governor of Sindh and Administrator Karachi for this respect. He also said that Altaf Hussain always gave respect to artists.
On this occasion Administrator Karachi while giving a briefing said that this was an old problem of this area which is being solved now. He said the link road will be completed in next four months which would provide facilities to people of this area. New Jersey barriers will be installed alongside Nehr-e-Khayyam and pavements will be made on both sides 6 feet wide road.
Governor Sindh also inspected the Shrine of Abdullah Shah Ghazi and issued directives for providing all facilities to visitors. He also directed to complete all preparations for the annual Urs of Abdullah Shah Ghazi form 20th to 22nd Zil Hajj. On the visit of Bagh Ibne Qsim he directed to make this state of the art park a best park of the city.
