Islamabad, August 20, 2015 (PPI-OT): Government aims to improve the nutritional values of the most vulnerable Pakistanis through the quarterly stipends it gives through BISP whilst it expects business community to absorb them or their families in the job market so that the vulnerable can graduate out of poverty.
This was stated by Minister of State and Chairperson BISP, MNA Marvi Memon during a meeting in the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce. The discussion in the meeting focused on the welfare of BISP beneficiaries and the international success achieved by the Sialkot business community.
On the occasion, Chairperson BISP said that BISP is the largest social safety net of the country. The role of development partners, civil society, business community, local philanthropist organizations, educational institutions and media besides government is very important for the success of BISP.
She said that BISP wishes to benefit from the expertise of the private sector and the opportunities which may be offered by the business community to improve the services being provided by BISP. BISP is providing monthly financial assistance of Rs. 1500 to its beneficiaries. The need of the hour is that the provincial governments and the civil society also present their invaluable services to pull out these beneficiaries from extreme poverty.
During the meeting, BISP officials gave a detailed briefing on the profiles of BISP beneficiaries present in Sialkot. Chairperson BISP urged the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce for provision of employment to the poor families after training them in different skills. She stressed that the active participation from all the quarters is necessary for eradication of poverty from the country. She added that BISP has decided to work on the corporate social responsibility with the cooperation of business community for financial assistance to the poor families.
President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Fazal Jillani thanked Chairperson BISP for her visit and appreciated the steps taken by BISP for the poorest of the poor. He ensured the cooperation of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce in every possible way. He also expressed his resolve for providing jobs to the members of BISP beneficiary families.
Chairperson BISP appreciated the offer of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce for beneficiaries and said that the involvement of Sialkot business community may bring positive changes in the lives of more than twenty thousand beneficiary families of Sialkot. She said that the businessmen of Sialkot are very hard working and have innovative thinking. They are contributing in the development and prosperity of the country and thus are beat placed to create history by getting rid of poverty and unemployment from their own district.
