Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has initiated different socio-economic, academic and health sector development projects

Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Finance Engineer Muhammad Humayun Khan has disclosed that the government of KPK has initiated different socio-economic, academic and health sector development projects, including Bacha Khan Khpal Rozgar Scheme, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Hunarmand Scheme, Benazir Health Support Programme, establishment of call centers, Mawroosi Hunarmand Scheme, foreign education programme for nurses and Centre of Excellence in technical education on which billions of rupees are being spent.

He was addressing as chief guest the inauguration ceremony of programme for provision of free medicines to patients of blood cancer, at a local hotel, Peshawar on Thursday. Secretary Finance Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad, Special Secretary Health Dr. Noorul Iman, Chief Executive Hayatabad Medical Complex Aftab Khan Durrani, Chief Financial Officer Novartis Pharmaceuticals Ltd Khalid Noor, health experts and a large number of patients of blood cancer were also present during the inaugural function.

This programme is a joint venture of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and Novartis Pharma in which the poor registered patients of blood cancer would be provided free standard medicines and treatment from the Medical Oncology Unit of Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar.

The minister finance further disclosed that every registered blood cancer would be provided medicines worth Rs. 1,20,000/- per month. He said beside provision of free medicines the patients would also be provided free check up at the HMC.

The minister stated that for a blood cancer patient 15 months course of the required medicine was needed in which expenses of 6 months would be borne by the government of KPK while the remaining 9 months expenses would be paid by the Novartis Pharmaceuticals Ltd which was a great commendable step on the part of the Novartis Pharma.

He expresses gratitude to the administration of the pharma on its generous financial support to the poor cancer patients and hoped that the programme initiated with such a zest would InshAllah touch the extent of success.

The minister finance said that the same joint venture of the KPK government and Novatis was a best instance of public-private partnership in the province. He also called upon the other private multinational companies to follow the Novartis Pharma and extend their helping hand to the provincial govt in pro people projects.

Many experts from the health department and Novartis Pharma also spoke on the occasion and stated that in Pakistan the registered number of blood cancer patients was 12000 in which 1000 patients belong to the KPK which was increasing day by day.

They lauded the efforts and financial assistance from the Novartis with the KPK government in this connection. Many blood cancer patients were also allowed to speak who expressed satisfaction over the measures. Later the Minister finance formally inaugurated the programme and distributed free medicines to the blood cancer patients.
