Islamabad, October 10, 2012 (PPI-OT): Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf while speaking to a group of PPP MPAs belonging to Punjab led by Mr Imtiaz Safdar Warraich, Minister of State for Interior at the PM House this evening has said that the policy of national reconciliation pursued by the PPP government has been a success as for the first time in the history of Pakistan, a civil government is completing its tenure.
The Prime Minister said that the history of PPP is the history of struggle for down trodden and rights of the people. The Prime Minister said that the MPAs of the Provincial Assembly belonging to PPP in Punjab have played their role of opposition in trying circumstances of which we are rightly proud of.
The Prime Minister said that the achievements of the Pakistan Peoples Party during 4-1/2 years include restoration of the constitution in its original shape, autonomy to the provinces and NFC Award.
The Prime Minister said that when PPP came into power, the foreign exchange reserves were very low and insufficient to cater to imports for even three months. However, due to the prudent policies of the government, our reserves today stand at over 14 billion dollars and we have now became a wheat exporting country.
Talking about the energy crisis, the Prime Minister said that the previous governments did not add any generation capacity to the system whereas demand for electricity kept on increasing. Dependence on oil whose international prices kept on increasing added further pressure on the economy. The government despite financial constraints provided relief to the consumers by giving a subsidy in the last four and a half years to share the burden of the consumers.
The Prime Minister further said that the development work carried out by this government in the past 4-1/2 years has been unprecedented. The Prime Minister said that the government will continue to work for the welfare of the people and will not shy out away from challenges.
These achievements of the government are not ordinary achievements and are even acknowledged by its worst opponents. The Prime Minister advised the PPP workers and legislators to reach out and tell the people about these achievements.
Mrs Faryal Talpur MNA, Mr Qamar Zaman Kaira Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Federal Minister Mr Nazar Muhammad Gondal were also present during the meeting.
