Srinagar, March 31, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, pro-freedom leaders and organizations have paid glowing tributes to prominent liberation leader, Ashfaq Majeed Wani, on his martyrdom anniversary. The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik, who is under house arrest in Srinagar, in a statement said that Ashfaq Majeed Wani was a great leader who sacrificed his life to nourish the freedom struggle in Kashmir. “Shaheed Ashfaq was a symbol of courage, fearlessness, religiousness, passion, and resistance against the falsehood and injustice.”
The JKLF Chairman said that torture cells, jails and other methods of oppression could not deter Wani from his way and he continued the freedom struggle firmly till his martyrdom. He said that the martyred leader’s gallant leadership in 1988 gave courage to hundreds of youth to stand up for the cause of freedom. “He always gave priority to others but when it came to sacrifices, he led from the front and sacrificed his life for the Kashmir cause,” he added.
Paying homage to Shabbir Ahmad Siddiqui and other martyrs of Hazratbal, Yasin Malik said that Siddiqui was a religious scholar and a man of wisdom who strived and sacrificed his life for the freedom of Kashmir. “He will also be remembered for his philanthropy and work in the field of education,” he added.
Meanwhile, the JKLF held a prayer meeting at Mazar-e-Shuhada Eidgah in Srinagar in connection with the martyrdom anniversaries of Ashfaq Majeed Wani, Shabbir Siddiqui, Dr Abdul Ahad Guru, advocate Jalil Andrabi and other martyrs.
Liberation leaders and activists including Javed Ahmed Mir visited Martyrs’ Graveyard Eidgah and paid tributes to Ashfaq Majeed Wani, Shabbir Ahmad Siddiqui and Hazratbal martyrs. Addressing on the occasion, Javed Ahmad Mir said that Ashfaq Majeed had infused a new lease of life to the Kashmiris’ liberation struggle and achieved martyrdom on March 30, 1990.
The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front-R organized Fateha Khawani at Martyrs’ Graveyard Eidgah for Ashfaq Majeed Wani and other martyrs. A large number of people including the JKLF-R leaders and activists participated in the Fateha Khawani, reiterating the pledge to take the mission of martyrs to its logical end. The JKLF-R also paid tributes to Shabbir Siddiqui, Dr Abdul Ahad Guru, advocate Jalil Andrabi and other martyrs.
