Gilani reiterates demand for VDCs dissolution

Srinagar, August 21, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, has reiterated the demand for disbanding of the so-called Village Defence Committees. (VDCs).

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that dissolution of the militia of Sangh Parivar was not only imperative for bringing an end to atrocities on the Muslim population of the Jammu region but also maintaining communal harmony in the territory.

He said that crores of rupees fund for the VDCs and salary of its members was an extra burden on the exchequer of the occupied territory, adding that the amount was being utilised for suppressing the Muslim community of Jammau region, which was unjust. He said that the authorities were equally responsible for rights violations committed by (VDCs) as they support them.

The veteran Hurriyet leader said that people could be silenced through continued imposition of curfew in the region but it could not be termed durable peace. He said that arrest and exemplary punishment to the people involved in the August 9 incident was only way to maintain peace. He also demanded release of all illegally detained Kashmiri youth.

Describing the puppet Chief Minister, Omar Abdulla as a weak politician, Syed Ali Gilani said that his five-year tenure gave nothing to the Kashmiri people but cruelty, depression and suppression. He said that disbanding of VDCs was not in his jurisdiction as he was nothing than a show boy.
